Kinlord Rilis XII was the leader of Firsthold until a lust for power drove him along the path of Daedric deals with Oblivion lords such as Molag Bal. As a result, he went mad, gave his soul to the eternal service of the Lord of Enslavement and then - removed from power. His soul was restrained in special dungeons with a special locking stone and the Order of the Keepers, so for some time he was stuck in his prison.

However, this was not enough for a long time, later other measures were required to contain the insane magician, and the Keepers decided to break his soul into 4 parts and hide them each in a separate stone, tying them to the guardians themselves. Which, of course, was a mistake.
